Found dead at his home on July 21, 2026, Daniel Siad was considered by investigators to be a key intermediary in Jeffrey Epstein’s network. Targeted by several complaints, notably for rape, he was the subject of an investigation in Paris. Who was this man who remained in the shadows and what alleged role did he play in the French part of the affair? We talk about it in the new episode of “Titre à la une”.
On July 21, 2026, Daniel Siad, 69, was found dead at his home in Colombes, in the Paris region. This model recruiter was cited numerous times in files linked to Jeffrey Epstein. In France, he was the subject of an investigation into his alleged role in the recruitment of young women. According to investigators, Daniel Siad was a key intermediary in Jeffrey Epstein’s network.
The forensic examination carried out on July 23 “did not reveal an immediate cause of death at this stage”, indicated the Nanterre prosecutor’s office in a press release. Additional analyses, notably toxicological and anatomopathological, were ordered. The disappearance of Daniel Siad nevertheless deprives investigators of a key witness. Several associations denounced the slowness of justice, believing that a man considered a central figure in the French part of the affair had never been heard.
But then who was Daniel Siad? What role did he play with Jeffrey Epstein? Why does France occupy such an important place in this affair? To answer these questions, the new episode of Title on the One welcomes Emmanuelle Andréani, journalist at the magazine Society and co-author, with Anthony Mansuy, of Epstein, what you’ve never read.
You had Daniel Siad on the phone for this investigation and you described a ghost. What man was he?
We had the name of Daniel Siad quite early in our investigation which began in September, because he was identified both in the American investigation and in the French investigation as one of Jeffrey Epstein’s main alleged touts after his conviction in 2008, but also from the 1990s. We tried to contact him for months and months. We had his name and identity since last fall. We made a lot of phone calls around the world because he is someone who has traveled a lot: he is of Swedish nationality but has lived in Cuba and other places, with connections all over the world.
We spoke to former associates, young women he had recruited, modeling agencies. He’s a ghost in the sense that he’s someone who has never been formally employed by a modeling agency. He is someone who speaks several languages and had a multiple identity. The victims who encountered him are categorical: he did not always present himself under the same name. Besides, Daniel Siad was not his real name, but Amar Siad. He was a fairly enigmatic character, and a fairly ideal alleged accomplice for someone like Jeffrey Epstein who was keen to go under the radar of the justice system.
He will never be judged, the public action ends with his death. What was he like when you spoke with him?
He held the same line of defense. The interview we did with him was one of the first where he agreed to speak to journalists. His line of defense was to say that he did not know what was happening to the young women he had recruited or introduced to Jeffrey Epstein, in his words. What we do know is that every time he introduced a young woman to Jeffrey Epstein, it wasn’t always for modeling purposes. His argument was that he thought Jeffrey Epstein ran a modeling agency. However, Jeffrey Epstein never ran a modeling agency. The entire defense of his former associate Jean-Luc Brunel was to say that Jeffrey Epstein had never been associated with or had never directly financed a modeling agency.
This is contradictory because Daniel Siad knew Jean-Luc Brunel very well and worked for him. He was close to Brunel and Epstein from the 90s and he tells us that he recruited young women thinking that Jeffrey Epstein was the boss of a modeling agency and Victoria’s Secret, which he never was. Sometimes he would promise them an assistant position on Wall Street or roles in the cinema. Our investigation shows that he would adapt to each victim to convince them to meet Jeffrey Epstein, then he would disappear from the picture completely. Given that there were 30 years of contact between the two men, it’s hard to believe that there was never any feedback on what happened next.
Jean-Luc Brunel, Daniel Siad and Jeffrey Epstein, together form a triangle in this French aspect of the Epstein affair. Why does France hold such a special place in this affair?
France was Jeffrey Epstein’s rear base, particularly after his first conviction when he was grilled in the United States. (…) France was both a haven of peace and the place where the recruitment of young women was organized, because he was linked with Jean-Luc Brunel and Daniel Siad who introduced him to young women from Europe. Daniel Siad traveled extensively in Eastern Europe. Polish and Czech journalists found many young women introduced to Jeffrey Epstein via Daniel Siad. Jeffrey Epstein came to Paris in the 1980s. American victims placed him with Jean-Luc Brunel in shady dinners with very young women, older men and drugs. (…) France is a central country in its operation, both in terms of sex trafficking, business and power relations.
Today Daniel Siad died without having been prosecuted, despite complaints. He was a witness in this case and yet he was never heard. How do you explain it?
An investigation was opened in France after the death of Jeffrey Epstein due to his proximity to Jean-Luc Brunel and Ghislaine Maxwell who is of French nationality. This investigation led to the indictment of Jean-Luc Brunel and the opening of a judicial investigation for human trafficking in 2019. The name of Daniel Siad came up in the victims’ hearings as being the person who had recruited them. Investigators working on the case were very frustrated when the investigating judge decided to close the investigation in 2022 after the suicide of Jean-Luc Brunel, because they could have continued to question Daniel Siad. He was not worried at that time, which is amazing when you know his role. They reopened the investigation when his name came up in the files last January.
Siad’s name had become essential, it is everywhere. U.S. attorneys have known his name since at least 2016-2017. He was expected to at least be heard as a witness. Legal proceedings take time, but given the media attention and public revolt, it would have been logical to try to hear from this man who is a key witness in the life of Jeffrey Epstein and in the excesses of the modeling world.
What will his death prevent us from knowing in this case?
A whole part of the functioning of the pyramid of predation set up by Jeffrey Epstein cannot be elucidated, since it was he who presented a lot of young women. There were also Jeffrey Epstein’s assistants who were involved in this whole sex trafficking operation. He had ties with him for over thirty years. Afterwards, they weren’t close in the sense of friends. He remained in the shadows and did not rub shoulders with Epstein’s powerful friends. What interested us was whether Daniel Siad had recruited young women for other personalities, because Jeffrey Epstein was not the only client of these trafficking operations. His death leaves many questions unanswered.
Jeffrey Epstein was found dead in 2019, Jean-Luc Brunel in 2022 and now Daniel Siad. How can we find proven information when these deaths fuel conspiracy theories?
There remain today two million documents that have not been published by the American Department of Justice. There may be new information in these documents. We have no idea what is in these documents. If anything, these are very sensitive documents that were not published for the wrong reasons. (…) So no one has any idea except the people who hold them. In addition, the American Congress is conducting hearings on Epstein’s links with possible secret services or foreign powers. There are people who are interviewed, who worked with Jeffrey Epstein in the United States.
There are more and more victims speaking out. There is a young woman who was raped for a very long time at the time that Jeffrey Epstein was supposedly in prison for his first conviction. In fact, during the day, he raped young women so there is a testimony that was released the other day by CNN. But it is true that Virginia Roberts-Giuffre, his main accuser recruited when she was a minor at Mar-a-Lago, committed suicide in April 2025. That’s a lot of people dying with their secrets, which contributes to public distrust. We would have liked this matter to be treated as a higher priority for reasons of transparency.
