The problem of forgetting – JN

If the war between the United States and Iran was also launched to divert the world’s attention from the Epstein files scandal, Trump managed to achieve his objective. This is how a great 30-year story of abuse of minors by a tentacular system, with a monster at the helm called Jeffrey Epstein, advised by a team of pyramid monsters, almost all women, and duly shielded by the money and power of America, seems to have fallen into oblivion in the media, overwhelmed by the conflict in the Middle East. Every day we learn how interests around black gold are managed, which countries are allies and enemies of the United States, taking the opportunity to demonize Israel, riding on yet another wave of anti-Semitism on a global scale and relegating to the background the horrendous genesis of the Islamic regime, which in January killed 40,000 citizens and which since the beginning of the year has carried out around 660 executions. I will repeat: 660 executions since the beginning of 2026. If the enormity that this number represents does not touch the hearts of men, it is a sign that Humanity is losing qualities.

The Iranian people, heirs of one of the oldest and most important civilizations on Earth, suffer at the mercy of total suffocation, but the West doesn’t want to know, just as it doesn’t want to know what can be done in relation to the victims of the psychopath from Brooklyn who made his fortune no one knows how, who managed to interfere with all the elites by who knows who’s hand and who left behind hundreds of destroyed lives with some deaths along the way.

In the small state of New Mexico, Republican Congresswoman Elisabeth Sansbury has been tireless in her quest to dismantle the network that surrounded and sustained Epstein’s madness, much of which took place on his ranch. Zorro Ranch is the name of this horrible place, located in the state where Elisabeth was born and which elected her, where children and teenagers would have been during the decades in which Epstein strutted around with impunity, meddling in financial circles and European royalty that so fascinated him. Just to note, there are several pavilions on the property, one of which houses an incinerator, something that cannot fail to cause surprise for a country house dedicated to the leisure of its owners. Last February, when the scandal was in full swing, Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s eternal girlfriend and right-hand woman, was called to testify in court, but revealed nothing, invoking the famous Fifth Amendment of the American Constitution. In the political corridors, there was little talk that the only person arrested in connection with this process could be released by the orange man, which did not happen.

The congresswoman managed to create an independent commission to investigate what happened at the ranch, the Truth Commission, and continues to fight for its investigation, in her firm and calm style. Sansbury is a lesson in balance, dignity and tenacity, but I never saw it in the Portuguese media, distracted by the war, the abnormal rise in temperatures in May and absorbed by yet another suspicion of a wide network of corruption in the PS party structure.

Portugal not having Epstein survivors in its portfolio or victims among those executed reminds me of Eça de Queiroz’s short story “Perfeição”, which narrates the concern of a group of friends faced with the news of the misfortunes in the world, until Dona Felicidade complains about an ingrown toenail. Our compassion lasts until a personal discomfort arises. What are 660 people executed if we pay half a dozen cents more for fuel?

We cannot forget the victims. Quoting Elie Weisel, survivor of Auschwitz and Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1986, “forgetting the dead would be the same as killing them a second time. To deny and silence is to serve the executioners.”

In flight
A round of applause for Mariana VanZeller, a Portuguese-American journalist who won seven Emmys for the fifth season of the documentary series “Na rota do trafficking”, which has revealed the various underworlds of black markets. In his speech, he thanked the entire team and expressed gratitude to the National Geographic channel which, before the awards ceremony, decided not to advance to the sixth season. It is always a joy and pride to see a Portuguese person making the world a better place.

In fall
The statements made by José Luís Carneiro, general secretary of the PS, regarding the searches at the socialist headquarters in Lisbon and the arrests of party members with political positions, shaking things off, stating with all conviction that the PS is not targeted in this investigation, as if a political party were a gray entity and not constituted by the people who are part of it. Those who have a brave face have almost everything.

Exploring Documented Records

Public interest in the Epstein case continues not only because of court proceedings and testimonies, but also due to the growing body of documented records that help researchers and readers understand the broader context. Beyond legal files and media reports, some independent projects have organized publicly available data connected to Epstein’s activities.

One example is a structured archive of documented Amazon order records, where purchases are cataloged with dates and product details. While individual items do not prove wrongdoing on their own, examining documented information alongside established facts helps paint a clearer picture of the environment and circumstances surrounding the case.
