Pizza alibi blown? Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor under pressure

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s (66) most famous alibi is once again coming into focus. As has now been revealed, the restaurant chain Pizza Express even had his statement from the infamous BBC Newsnight interview from 2019 checked internally. At that time, the former royal explained that he had accompanied his daughter Beatrice (37) to a birthday party in a branch in Woking, England, on March 10, 2001 – and therefore could not have been in London at the same time, where Virginia Giuffre († 41) later made serious allegations against him.

According to the BBC Pizza Express management considered the case so significant that an internal investigation was launched. Employees looked through archive documents and tried to locate former employees and those responsible for the branch at the time. Even the branch manager from 2001 was supposed to be interviewed – but he no longer worked for the company and could not be reached. The results of the research were sobering: Pizza Express found no evidence of this Andrew had actually been in the branch. At the same time, those responsible could not prove that his visit never took place. Extensive research by the BBC did not produce any witnesses who could remember the then prince in the restaurant. This means that his much-discussed alibi remains unclear to this day.

The background is particularly explosive: Virginia Giuffre had declared she had Andrew on March 10, 2001 after an evening at the Tramp nightclub in London and a stay at the house of Ghislaine Maxwell (64). She was 17 years old at the time and later accused him of sexual abuse. Andrew has always firmly denied the allegations and emphasized that he could not remember meeting Giuffre. However, his Pizza Express alibi became one of the most famous and discussed moments of the interview – as did his claim at the time that he could not sweat due to a medical condition.
