The American Wasserman Agency is sold. The reason is a public commotion surrounding emails between owner Casey Wasserman and Ghislaine Maxwell, which surfaced in the so-called Epstein Files. Several artists subsequently ended their representation with the agency.

According to reports, the emails did not contain any criminal offenses, but several acts stated that the moral standard of their team is leading in the choice of representation. Chappell Roan indicated that it would not accept any collaboration that does not meet those requirements. The band Wednesday also stated that it cannot work with a company in which someone appears in the Epstein Files. In addition, Weyes Blood, Orville Peck, Beach Bunny, Chelsea Cutler, Dropkick Murphys, Bethany Cosentino and Local Natives left.

In an internal email to employees, Wasserman wrote: “I am deeply saddened that my brief contact with them 23 years ago has caused so much trouble to you, this company and our customers in recent days and weeks. At this point, I believe that I have become a hindrance. That is why I have initiated the sale of the company, a process that is already underway.” He praises the 4,000 employees, calling them “the very best in the industry.”

Wasserman entered the music industry in 2021 with the acquisition of the music division of Paradigm Talent Agency. Shortly afterwards the acquisition of the British CODA Agency (formerly Paradigm UK) followed.

The impact of the recent artist outflow on turnover, market share and ongoing deals is currently unclear. No details have been released about potential buyers or a timeline for the sale.
